— Released 21st February 2023

Edinburgh-born, London-based producer Barry Can’t Swim shares "Sunsleeper". In true Barry form it’s an infectiously fun and high energy single, out today on Ninja Tune which marks the DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist’s first release for the label (previously Technicolour). “It’s been a while since I’ve written a tune like this, pure party energy” he comments on the track. “Stylistically it’s like the cousin of Blackpool Boulevard, but with a Spanish vocal sample layere...

“Stylistically it’s like the cousin of Blackpool Boulevard, but with a Spanish vocal sample layered over it to bring even more warmth and energy. I wanted this to be the first release of the year, it’s all the core emotions of my sound, but bigger. And that’s what this year is about.”

“Sunsleeper” follows on from Barry’s recently released, equally infectious single "Like The Old Days" which marked the end of a hugely successful 2022 for the ever-rising producer. Throughout last year Barry Can’t Swim performed at a range of high profile festivals across the UK, Europe, USA and Australia including Lost Village, Falls Festival, Forbidden Fruit, Outside Lands and a host of club shows, bringing his feel-good DJ sets to the masses. Rounding off the year in style he played a standout DJ set for Mixmag Lab, which clocked up a huge 50k views within just two weeks.

Set for a huge year ahead Barry (real name Joshua Mainnie) shows no signs of slowing down. Alongside working on his biggest project to date Barry will embark on a busy summer of festivals across the UK and US. In addition to this he’s currently busy preparing an ambitious live show to take on the road later in the year, which will see Barry playing multiple instruments including his first musical love, the piano, accompanied by live drums, vocals and others.

“Sunsleeper” is out now, with more new music coming later this year. Barry is heading out on a US tour next month and will be announcing his debut live shows in London and Edinburgh later this week.
